We’ve been asked before what inspires us to be wedding photographers. It’s not the most traditional profession, after all, and it takes a certain sort of person to be able to get to know couples day in and day out to feel like part of the family.
It’s pretty simple: love inspires us.
Sure, there’s the type of love you have for a spouse or partner, but that’s not the only kind of love we’re inspired by. Platonic love, familial love, even the love between a human and their pet–all of it brings us joy and helps us to strive to do more of what we do.
These blog posts are always a little weird to write. We want to strike a balance between sharing ourselves as Wander Back, but also sharing ourselves as Jo and Alli, the people behind it. For example, I’m Jo, writing this now. I can’t speak totally for Alli about love, so I wanted to share how I feel about it and our business a little more specifically.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been a hopeless romantic, wanting to create and capture fantastic memories for everyone I care about. When I discovered that wedding photography was an actual business, there were no questions asked: that’s what I wanted to do with my life.
When it comes to family and friends, I’m always the one with the camera in my hands, ready in an instant to capture the priceless moments that we share. Whether it’s a simple family gathering, a surprise I put together to cheer a friend up, or (way back when) a high school band competition, photos are always part of the plan. That way, we can relive our moments whenever we look at the snapshots instead of those memories fading away.
Romance, though, is a bit of a different story: I love it all! When I’m in a relationship, I’m always looking for ways to spoil my guy with love. If I’m watching a movie, there’s about a 95% chance I’m watching a romcom. If I’m not doing either of those or doing something for a family member or friend, I’m probably brainstorming what I’ll be doing next to help the people I care about.
Because of that, learning about wedding photography was a dream come true for me. Being surrounded by everything I love, and by love itself, while doing things I can do for all those I care about… and doing it for a living? That sounds like heaven!
Of course, there’s another inspiration here: our beautiful couples. Seeing how much they love each other, hearing their romance stories, being able to really see the feelings they share for each other… well, that makes my day complete!
To all of our Wander Back couples–thank you for allowing us to be a part of your love story! We love you all!
