Wright House Wedding – Katherine and Alex

You might remember Kat and Alex from their recent engagement shoot. Good news: they tied the knot! Their wedding was on a peaceful, sunny day. When we arrived at Kat’s house to get ready, we were greeted by a kitchen full of fresh-scented flower arrangements and Kat in an amazing silk wedding-day robe. All of Kat’s bridesmaids and sisters threaded extra sprigs from the arrangements through their hair, lending a touch of natural magic to what was sure to be an amazing day.

The noontime sunlight shone through the windows, casting light over the walls, brightening up the host of family photos placed lovingly across them. The ladies finished their makeup in the natural light and turned their attention to the dress, Kat’s mother and sister helping loop each one of its many buttons. Burgundy lips and picture-perfect hair accented a simply beaded halter and some of the most stunning twill I’ve ever seen: the dress seemed destined for Kat.

With Kat ready, we traveled to the church where she and Alex were to make it official. She came up behind him and placed her hand on his shoulder, a gentle touch to let him know that it was time for the first look, for the first time seeing each other in wedding attire, for the last time seeing each other before becoming officially husband and wife. We’re not kidding: Alex dropped to his knees the moment he laid eyes on her, pulling her into a tight embrace that made it clear just how strong their commitment is.

After their quiet moment, it was time for Kat’s dad to have his first look, seeing his daughter ready to take that next sacred step. He was speechless, even as they proceeded into the breathtaking church. With pride and happiness in his eyes, Kat’s dad escorted her to the white marble altar, handing her off beneath the vaulted cathedral ceiling. From the large windows, the sun seemed to smile down on Kat and Alex, its light cascading over the couple as the Catholic Mass began. The incense smoke filtered the light, making it twinkle across the church, making the priest’s holy water sparkle in the air as he blessed the congregation. Kat and Alex looked to be the definition of holy union, taking their vows in front of God and their family.

To the Wright House we went next, its lush greenery taking us out of Arizona, the sweeping trees guiding us into a world all their own. The wedding party split from their guests to freshen up, Kat’s mom bustling her dress before it was time for the couples’ photos. Taking those pictures was one of the highlights of the day for one simple fact: the love that Kat and Alex share is magnetic. It’s a connection that is true, one that made for beautiful, honest photos of a man and a woman on their wedding day.

The reception was nothing short of a good, down-to-earth celebration. The mother-son dance was like none we’ve seen before, Alex spinning his mom more times than we could count, her silk gray dress spiraling out as she danced. It was a perfect moment for her to share with her newlywed son. As moms of sons, neither of us could hold back happy tears.

We weren’t the only ones crying, though. The champagne toast and speeches left no dry eyes in the room, with Kat’s sisters and Alex’s best man sharing incredible words of love for their family. It was obvious that Kat and Alex have made everlasting impressions not just on one another, but on those around them, the kind of bond that you see and know will last more than a lifetime.

As Kat and Alex danced the night away and took a sparkler-accented exit to their limo, that just became clearer and clearer. Kat and Alex have a love for the ages.

Congrats, you two!

Love,

Jo + Alli
