Since we started working together, Alli and I have been able to meet so many different kinds of couples! Some of them were people we’ve known for years. Others were people we’ve met through our career. I like getting to know every person we work with… it’s one of the reasons I love doing what I do. When I get to work with someone I’ve known for almost a decade, though, it’s extra special. That’s how it is for today’s couple, Fabi and Patrick.
See, I met Patrick when I was going to ASU. We met in a Fibers class and hit it off right away, like friendship at first sight. He’s one of my closest friends and has been there for all my ups and downs and all my stories about dating and about motherhood, and I’ve gotten to hear about all of his love life. What else are friends for?
One day, when we were hanging out, something seemed different. He’d just gotten back from a friend’s bachelor party in Costa Rica, but he was glowing. Not in the “I just had a nice vacation” way. I had a feeling, so I asked him: “You met someone, didn’t you?”
I don’t think I’ve ever seen him with a bigger grin. That Costa Rica trip is when Patrick met Fabi! He told me all about her, and his smile got even bigger. I didn’t know that was possible, but it told me one thing… that Fabi was someone really, really special.
Fast forward a bit to August 2021. Patrick seemed nervous when we were hanging out, which he never really does. Spending time with him is always easy, so I asked what was going on, and I found out he needed help finding a ring because he wanted to propose to Fabi! Engagement rings are special, but sometimes you can get so nervous that having a friend around helps. It felt like it took quite a while, but when Patrick found the ring he’d choose, he knew it was the right one the second he saw it. (Kind of like how he knew Fabi was special!)
Around a month later, Patrick went back to Costa Rica with Fabi, and during that trip, he got down on one knee and popped the question. Since I’m writing this blog, you can probably guess what she said! It wasn’t even a question in Fabi’s mind: she’s every bit in love with Patrick as he is with her. When I went to Costa Rica in March 2022 (my first international trip!), it couldn’t have been more obvious. Exploring downtown San Jose with Fabi as our tour guide was an amazing experience.
The two of them just radiate joy. Wandering the streets was really cool, especially with someone like Fabi who knows the place so well, but seeing Patrick and Fabi together, seeing how much they really love each other? There were a few times I had to stop taking pictures to wipe my eyes!
Getting to see Patrick’s experience with falling in love and proposing to the woman of his dreams has been unforgettable. The joy that he and Fabi have together makes me smile just thinking about it, and I think that says everything you need to know. I’m tearing up just thinking about it!
No engagement story is complete without a wedding story, though… but we’ll save that for another time. Soon, I promise. Until then, congrats, Patrick and Fabi! Thank you for being part of our lives and letting us be a part of yours!
