Papago Park Engagement – Katherine and Alex

Each and every engagement shoot is different. You might think that goes without saying, but when your job is doing photoshoots like this day in and day out, it can seem on the outside like it’s routine instead of something special. That goes double for when we do a shoot somewhere we’ve been before, like Papago Park, which borders Phoenix and Tempe

It’s not just about the weather or the location or even the couple. Every element comes together to make the experience different from photoshoot to photoshoot. That holds true with this shoot we did with Katherine and Alex. Some couples like to let us lead, especially on warm days like we had for this engagement, but these two were one of the couples that really wanted to get down into the nitty-gritty of things.

For one, they were prepared–Alex brought cold drinks and towels to make sure that he and Katherine didn’t sweat the day away, and the two of them together even had a mental list of photos they wanted to try. Alex’s enthusiasm and Kat’s go-with-the-flow attitude made for some perfect shots. When Alex wanted to do something, Kat was ready!

Kat and Alex’s preparedness even came into play with the pandemic, as you can see in the cover photo–they brought masks along and wanted to take photos with them on! Honestly, it makes us think a little bit of the wild, wild West. (These two have a better future ahead of them than Bonnie and Clyde, though 😉)

Thing is, a better future doesn’t necessarily mean a smooth past. When Kat and Alex first met, they hit it off, and Alex worked up the courage to ask her on a date. The date went well, but sometimes life has a way of interrupting things, and their paths separated for a bit. And, eventually, as you can guess, Kat decided to give Alex another shot.

Their first date–well, their second first date–saw them share one of their passions: movies. Kat and Alex both love movies of almost all sorts, with one exception: horror. (Kat isn’t exactly big on gore, which I totally understand.) Alex took Kat to one of his favorite spots, a movie-rental place that’s unique even nowadays in the age of Netflix. They browsed the shelves of indie movies and big-budget blockbusters until they found just the right flick, settled in for a cozy evening, and the rest was history.

Movies aren’t the only thing that brought the two together, though, not with church in the picture. Shared faith can help bring couples together, after all! Shared faith can even lead to weddings… like it did with Kat and Alex: Alex asked her to marry him during mass! With the blessing of their congregation, it seems pretty clear that Kat and Alex are on the road to lifelong happiness.

And, well, we couldn’t be happier for them.

Congrats, Kat and Alex!

Love,

Alli
